Overview
Octopus earns its name: narrow leaves stream from each node like tentacles, curling and crossing in the current. It is the rare dramatic plant that stays easy, growing quickly in ordinary setups where the fussier stellatus forms would sulk.

Aquascaping use
One group turns a static background into weather; give it a corner where its motion doesn't upstage everything. It fits jungle styles and heavily stocked community tanks well.

Planting
Plant stout cuttings deep; the tall stems catch current like sails and need anchorage. Allow broad spacing, as each stem occupies serious volume.

Light & CO₂
Medium light sustains dense, streaming growth without CO₂. Under stronger energy the leaf tips may blush faintly pink.

Substrate & fertilization
A straightforward column feeder with a healthy appetite for nitrogen. Pale, narrow new leaves flag a lean tank.
Feeding behavior: Water-column feeder. Nutrient demand: moderate.

Growth, trimming & propagation
Top hard when it reaches the surface and replant the vigorous crowns. Old stems below repeated cuts coarsen, so cycle in fresh tops seasonally.
