Overview
Balansae comes from limestone river systems, which shows in both its tolerance of hard water and its taste for flow. The puckered strap leaves can reach sixty centimeters, filling a background with movement that stem plants can't imitate.

Aquascaping use
Give it the back corners of larger tanks where the leaves can arch across the surface. It reads especially well behind wood in Southeast Asian river-styled layouts with rasboras or loaches.

Planting
Root it deeply in mature, nutritious substrate and let it settle; it may sulk for weeks before committing. Once happy it forms slowly expanding stands from underground runners.

Light & CO₂
Low to moderate light suffices, and it tolerates hard, alkaline setups where soft-water plants sulk. CO₂ is unnecessary, though it lengthens and thickens the ribbons.

Substrate & fertilization
A deep root zone with tabs renewed a couple of times a year keeps stands healthy. Water-column feeding is secondary.

Growth, trimming & propagation
Prune the oldest ribbons at the base when they tatter at the surface. Thin stands occasionally so light penetrates to younger crowns.
