Overview
Mermaid weed arrives looking ordinary and transforms underwater: leaves elongate, teeth deepen into comb tines, and the whole plant shifts from green through amber to burnt copper. The transformation tracks light and CO₂ so faithfully that growers use it as a status gauge.

Aquascaping use
Its sawtooth texture and sunset color have no substitutes; stage it mid-tank against fine green plants. A few stems suffice, as the detail is dense.

Planting
Plant firm cuttings in active substrate under full conditions from the start; halfway setups get the halfway leaf form. It roots moderately fast.

Light & CO₂
High light and dependable CO₂ drive both the comb-tooth form and the copper color. Under less it politely remains its emersed self.

Substrate & fertilization
Feed macro and micro generously; color depth follows nitrogen and iron availability. It also draws from a rich substrate.
Feeding behavior: Mixed feeder. Nutrient demand: high.

Growth, trimming & propagation
Trim conservatively, topping above strong nodes; regrowth carries the current condition's form. Old converted leaves are irreplaceable, so protect them from damage.
