01
Overview
Glandulosa's long leaves mature to a somber claret that reads almost purple against green. Unlike its quick cousins it builds slowly, holding its foliage for months, which makes every deficiency a long-term resident.
02
Aquascaping use
Its darkness anchors bright compositions; use a restrained group where the color can smolder against lime greens. It suits deliberate, high-tech layouts rather than busy jungles.
03
Planting
Plant into rich substrate and resist moving it; slow growers pay a long tax on every disturbance. Space stems so lower leaves keep their light.
Rich substrate
04
Light & CO₂
Consistent CO₂ is genuinely required; without it the plant stalls and sheds. Medium light suffices for color because the pigment is constitutive, not stress-induced.
05
Substrate & fertilization
Feed both root and column generously, with phosphate and iron in dependable supply. Deficiency shows as stunted, twisted new tips that persist for weeks.
Feeding behavior: Mixed feeder. Nutrient demand: high.
06
Growth, trimming & propagation
Trim rarely and deliberately, keeping cuts above healthy nodes. Replanted tops take time to restart, so stagger any major rework.

07
Common problems
- !Stalls completely without CO₂
- !Deficiency damage lingers on long-lived leaves
- !Slow recovery after transplant or heavy trimming
