Overview
This dwarf selection keeps the species' leathery blade and easy nature but tops out around a hand's width. It fills the niche between moss and midground plants in small tanks, where a standard Java fern would swallow the layout.

Aquascaping use
Tuck portions into crevices and branch joints where a full fern would overwhelm; it reads as understory growth rather than a specimen. Repeating small clumps across the hardscape ties a nano scape together.

Planting
Glue or wedge the small rhizome into place and forget it; disturbance sets it back more than neglect does. Keep it clear of fast-growing neighbors that would shade it completely.

Light & CO₂
Fine under low light, with slightly fuller growth under moderate light and CO₂. Its slowness is genetic, not a deficiency to be fixed.

Substrate & fertilization
Minimal, steady column dosing is enough. In shrimp-focused nano tanks it tolerates the lean dosing those setups prefer.
Feeding behavior: Water-column feeder. Nutrient demand: low.

Growth, trimming & propagation
Rarely needed; remove a spent leaf occasionally and detach plantlets when they appear. Division works but each piece takes months to look established.
