Overview
Hornwort abandoned roots entirely; it drifts, photosynthesizes, and multiplies, with stiff whorled needles that give it the bottlebrush look. Its planetary range reflects a tolerance so broad that failure usually means the tank chemistry changed abruptly, its one genuine dislike.

Aquascaping use
Deploy it functionally: instant cover for fry, shade control, and nutrient sponge during a tank's unstable youth. As a permanent design element its constant shedding argues for caution.

Planting
Float stems freely below the surface or hold them loosely with a plant weight. Hornwort has no true roots, so do not bury the base as though it were a rooted stem.

Light & CO₂
Any reasonable light from cool to tropical temperatures; it consumes bicarbonate happily and never needs CO₂. Growth simply scales with the energy available.

Substrate & fertilization
It eats whatever the water offers, which is its job description; heavy feeding just accelerates it. In lean tanks it slows without complaint.

Discard old stems and keep the vigorous tips; the plant is effectively a colony of renewable cuttings. Net out shed needles during water changes.
